UFPR Sends Letter to USPTO

On June 3, 2025, UFPR sent a letter to the United States Patent and Trademark Office 's (USPTO) Acting Under Secretary and Director, Coke Morgan Stewart, to raise significant concerns with recent changes at the USPTO that have restricted access to America Invents Act (“AIA”) trial proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

UFPR members represent over 90 million U.S. employees, a figure that accounts for nearly two-thirds of private sector jobs in the United States. Our members are small and large – they range from Main Street retail shops, REALTORS®, hotels, grocers, convenience stores, and restaurants to national construction companies, automotive companies, and technology businesses. The Office’s recent changes to AIA proceedings limit the ability of productive businesses across the entire American economy to defend themselves against invalid patents, and as a result will lead to further increases in litigation abuse against UFPR’s broad membership.
