Retailers have been asking Congress to put a stop to patent trolls for years, but each year the problem keeps getting worse. This year, patent lawsuits in U.S. District Court are projected to total 6,100 cases, according to the patent reform group Unified Patents. That would be close to double the 3,500 cases seen in 2011, the year the America Invents Act — Congress’s most recent attempt to bring patent abuse under control — became law.
