For most of our nation’s history, grocery stores have been a staple along main streets across the country — ranging from the small family-owned operations and food cooperatives to boutique chains, like Whole Foods, and the mega supermarkets, like Walmart. No matter what their size, the business model of a grocer is simple: serve the food needs of the population.
